Behind the Brushstrokes
Stars of the Game celebrates the passion, dedication, and unity that sports bring to a community. We chose to feature wrestling, tennis, baseball, and bowling to represent the variety of athletes and opportunities that inspire people of all ages to keep and maintain active. Another big part of our mural would be, the hand balancing a basketball on one finger which symbolizes the hard work, focus, and determination required to succeed, while also representing how every sport is connected through teamwork, perseverance, and a shared love of the game.
Furthermore, the color palette, we selected was warm spring tones to create an energetic and inviting atmosphere while incorporating softer more feminine energy to try and help represent that sports can be played by any gender, not only that but the vibrant colors add excitement to the mural. In order to balance the composition of the mural, we made two sections more detailed in the backgrounds and the other two more focused on the athletes themselves, creating visual variety throughout the design. We also intentionally included people of multiple races to represent diversity, inclusion, and togetherness, reflecting the many individuals and families that make up our community. Our goal was to create a mural that encourages people to appreciate athletics, support one another, and recognize that the love of sports has the power to bring communities together.
