The imagery in this mural is inspired by the idea that life’s ‘gifts’ are not always grand or obvious. They often come in the form of ordinary moments, unexpected encounters, and simple objects. These things would hold little value if not for the memories, experiences, and meaning we attach to them.
The crow represents the unexpected ways we come across life’s ‘gifts’. Crows are known for collecting and offering ordinary items as gifts—the marble, button, and stone. These unassuming objects, which hold little value on their own, become treasures because of the stories we attach to them. Significance isn’t found in an object itself, but in the meaning it comes to hold.
The quilt in the background symbolizes the heritage, relationships, and shared histories that connect generations. Like quilt pieces stitched into a larger whole, our lives are pieced together from countless experiences. Like the passing down of a quilt, we choose which parts of ourselves to carry forward and pass on to the next generation.
The flowers in the mural represent growth, resilience, and renewal. Every season of life offers opportunities for growth and change, and we’re reminded that there is always beauty to be found there.
The mural invites us to pause and consider the gifts that have shaped us. To see things that may seem ordinary but hold deep meaning in our lives. To find beauty where it may be easily overlooked. A reminder that our stories, wisdom, and care are gifts we can pass on to others.
